June Mar was made a liability on defense according to Ayo

In the PBA Commissioner’s Cup last October 21, the Fiberxers defeated the Beermen 106-102 under Ayo’s direction. As Fajardo was recovering from throat surgery at the time of that game, Ayo called the win a fluke.

Despite not having Fajardo back, SMB swept Converge in the quarterfinals of the Commissioner’s Cup. After Fajardo fouled out with four minutes left the Fiberxers finally won on Saturday despite Fajardo’s mostly ineffective performance.

Immediately after the game, June Mar must be taken out of the game Ayo stated. It does not matter how good June Mar is on offense if his defense is a liability. He may be the best on offense, but he has lapses.

 Everybody knows it. Yun ang trade-off. We want to take advantage of that. I advised the boys, just play our game, get the pace, make June Mar a liability on defense (where he may be a liability).

I believe our conference win against them last year was a bad victory since we didn’t learn from it. I think this one of course is a good win since you’re learning from it Ayo said.

Our decision-making was impeccable down the stretch. We were able to put the right players at the right places and make good decisions during crucial moments said Ayo.

Ayo said Jamaal [Franklin] couldn’t do this by himself. It had to be a team effort. Thankfully, the players rose to the occasion he said.

Despite their solid performance however, Ayo noted that they still have a lot of room for improvement.

Ayo said This win needs to be handled with care. It is still a work in progress, even though we won.
